If I take a picture of a picture is it mine to do as I choose? I'm talking about tin signs I've collected over the years that I think would make good walls, free to use of course.
Shouldn't be a problem. It's the photo you're sharing, as your own, not what it's off.
Thanks!
I agree with Snowy. For what that's worth...lol.
Typically taking a photo of something, the Photo and its contents are yours to do with as you wish. As long as the subject matter is not protected by copyright and or prohibited in your local area...
IE: taking a Picture of your screen with one of the walls in our gallery on it and uploading it as a wallpaper created by you..This scenario would not allow for to the image being distributed, as you reproduced someones else work without permission.
Some places also restrict the use of cameras such as, movie theaters, Play's, some Government building's, etc. Again: copying someone else's works and or use of said buildings disallows for Photography. If the photos are taken in such places, they can not be redistributed..
Some places disallow the taking pictures/video of persons without permission.. It is best in these instances to know your local and state statutes on the subject..
Pictures of scenery, your backyard, the town hall from the outside (unless other wise posted), your local Pizza joint, ur dog Spot, that red spot on the back of your leg, etc..typically are acceptable to redistribute..... tho some of these may not make for a very good desktop wallpaper.....
In the case of the tin signs, I would have to add that company logo's are still copyrighted and may be subject to removal if there is a complaint , or if we know the specific company actively pursues use of it's logo..It may be rejected from the get go.
P.S.
If the Photo was taken contractually, IE: you were commissioned to take the photo then typically the copyrights would fall to the consumer, unless otherwise noted within the contract..
Cheers..
Good info! Thanks
Don, HG was very thorough but neglected to inform you of one special case. Deliberately.
Pictures of pizza probably won't make it to the Gallery since he's likely to either grab the pizza before you snap the pic, or in the rare case he misses, then the image before it hits your Photoshop and the Gallery.
Good Point Doc.
In the event pizza was captured in a photo, which I do tend to occasionally miss one here and there and it survives long enough to be photographed.... all evidential images of said pizza will be scrutinized by me and may require a slice or 6 of the original subject matter for comparison..
Always examine all "pizza' evidence carefully. A proper study requires the investigator to be very disciplined and implement full longitudinal study protocols. This way, all aspects of the Pizza can be measured over a period of time. My studies have usually result in information on the Pizza in the evening, and then, rarely, some left for the morning assay. Guess I'm not good at following research protocols when the subject is pizza.
Yeah, and any pizza not passing moderation will not be returned because HG will always get rid of the evidence.
However, once the pizza has "passed", any and all photography is strictly off limits.. in the interest of "good form" and proper etiquette.
Phoon...that was...cheesy.
it was... (dare i say it..) BOUND to happen!!
Buff, you're getting a little "loose" aren't you?
There's a thing called depends. Might want to give it a go.
